Makeup for Blue Eyes: Do's and Don'ts

Posted by

DO'S

  1. Layer shades. Having blue eyes opens up a lot of shades that other eye colours cannot actually get away with, so take advantage of this by layer multiple tones and shades. Try layering pale browns with coppers to make your eyes pop and add depth to the overall look.
  2. Navy eyeliner is your friend. Despite what you may hear, black liner can actually take away from blue eyes, but using deep navy liners can actually bring out the eye colour and make them pop even more.
  3. Embrace purple shades. The perfect compliment to blue eyes is purple shadows, especially pale lilacs and shimmers. Try layering several purple tones to add dimension.
  4. 4. Highlight is key. Add highlight to the inner corner of your eyes and under the brow bone to really bring out the icy tones in your eyes and draw attention to your best feature; blue eyes.

DON'TS

  1. Avoid blue eye shadows. This may seem like an obvious one but if you have blue eyes, using eye shadows and liners of a similar tone can actually make your eyes appear smaller. If you want to use blue shades, opt for those that are different from your own eye shade so navy blue with baby blue, aqua with dark blue.
  2. Keep it simple. Blue eyes are naturally beautiful on their own, so don't overpower them (and others) by layering a lot of different shades and liner techniques. Less is more when it comes to flattering blue eyes.
  3. No bottom eyeliner. Often bottom lash liner looks great but for blue eyes it can actually take away from the brightness and make your eyes appear smaller. If anything, use white eyeliner instead to compliment your eye colour.
